privacy policy

last updated July 2026

the short version

we collect the minimum needed to make OutHere work, we don't sell your data to anyone, and the things you post are only shown to the people you send them to.

what we collect

your phone number (to create and secure your account), your name, username, and profile photo (so friends recognize you), and the signals and comments you post. if you grant access, we also use your contacts and your location as described below.

contacts

if you connect your contacts, we match the phone numbers against existing OutHere accounts to show you which of your friends are already here. your contacts are used only for matching, never for marketing, and never shared with or sold to anyone.

text invites

if a friend invites you to a hangout by text, we store that phone number and which invite it belongs to, so we never text the same person twice about one hangout and never more than once a day overall. numbers that reply STOP go on a permanent opt-out list and are never texted again.

location

if you allow location access, it's used on your device to give you better nearby place suggestions while you're composing a signal. your location is not tracked in the background and is not stored on our servers.

notifications

if you allow notifications, we use them to tell you when a friend lights a signal, sends you a request, or replies to yours. you can turn them off anytime in Settings.

who sees what

signals and comments go only to the friends and lists you choose. your profile (name, username, photo) can be found by people who search for you, which is how friends add you.

where your data lives

your data is stored with our hosting provider (Supabase) and protected with per-account access rules, so one account can never read another account's private data.

deleting your data

you can log out anytime. if you want your account and everything tied to it permanently deleted, contact us at hello@outhereee.com and we'll wipe it.

changes

if this policy changes in a meaningful way we'll let you know in the app. continuing to use OutHere after that means you're okay with the updated policy.
